Man City 3 – 0 Newcastle

Glassbadge1708_6ALTHOUGH the boo-boys targeted Joey Barton, it was Newcastle manager Graeme Souness who lost his head as this defeat saw his departure from St James’s Park.

A woeful display from the Magpies, whose only attempt on target was a free-kick from Emre easily gathered by David James, saw City stroll through one of the poorest Newcastle teams ever to wear the famous black and white.

Man City 3 – 1 Man United

Stuartpearce0309_2MANCHESTER City shook off their recent poor form to crush United in the 145th derby at the City of Manchester stadium.

A 3 – 1 victory, with goals from Trevor Sinclair, Darius Vassell and a last-minute stunner from Robbie Fowler meant the fans were singing the Blues as they headed home.

Man City 3 - 1 Aston Villa

Glassbadge1708_5TWO goals by Darius Vassell against his former club saw City spring into a Champions League place, and the Blues record their fourth home win of the season.

Vassell struck inside the first five minutes when he capitalised on a mistake by Villa fullback Jlloyd Samuel who headed a looping ball over his keeper’s head.

Arsenal 1 - 0 City

I ONLY saw the extended highlights on Sky and overall thought the Blues deserved a point, but the strange penalty is what is making the headlines.

Pires' attempt to roll the ball across to an advancing Henry went quite spectacularly wrong, with both Frenchmen looking sheepish after the event.

Before this Arsenal were only 1 - 0 up after a penalty, converted by Pires, that was given for David James' challenge on Henry.

Although Sylvain Distin thought Pires was being disrespectful to the Blues at least we didn't lose concentration and got on with the match.

So much so that City were denied an equalising goal after a very tight offside decision, Vassell was clearly in line with the Arsenal back four but the flag went up.

The Blues played well thoughout the game and looked comfortable, although we missed Andy Cole who sat the game out with a hamstring strain.

But as I've written in the past, the Blues are a different team these days, many of the players looked disappointed at not getting something out of the game, instead of being content with not being turned over which seemed to exist in the past.

Man City 2 – 1 West Ham

A GOAL in each half from Andy Cole saw City secure a victory over West Ham and pushed them up to fourth in the Premiership.

Cole sparkled in an all-round City performance that saw them carve open the Hammers' defence repeatedly and would have delighted any neutral watching the match.

Man City 2 - 0 Everton

Glassbadge1708_4A GOAL Pele would have been proud of, was the way Stuart Pearce described the 25-yarder from Danny Mills that sparked this game into life.

For 72 minutes neither City or Everton really looked willing or able to shake off an 11.15am kick-off and give their fans something to shout about.

Newcastle 1 – 0 City

Skewbadge1708_4A DISAPPOINTING week for the Blues came to an end with defeat at St James’ Park thanks to a Michael Owen goal in the first half.

After being put through the mill against Bolton, becoming giant killing victims at Doncaster, City slipped to a 1 – 0 defeat against Newcastle.

City cast adrift by Doncaster

BEING a Blue is tough, after the head scratching of the Bolton game, it was the armchair beating of defeat to Doncaster Rovers in the Carling Cup.

Pearce had highlighted this competition as one to win, unfortunately the players were not listening as a pedestrian performance rolled on through extra time to a 3 – 0 defeat in a penalty shoot-out.

Man Utd 1 – 1 Man City

Glassbadge1708_3BY the sounds of the radio report it was a hard fought point but deserved and it is great to see the unbeaten run continuing.

And I just get the feeling that as opposed to times gone by when we would have been happy to put a spanner in the works of United, today we got a lot more out of the draw.

Man City 2 – 1 Portsmouth

Glassbadge1708_2TWO second half goals in the space of three minutes brought City their first home win of the season and second place in the Premiership.

City fell behind after 52 minutes to a well-worked free kick routine delivered by Portsmouth winger Laurent Robert and flicked in at the near post by John Viafara.
